I'm a new player:

My nation is classified as a "Liberal Socialist Democracy." However, in theory, if I screw up enough, I'll be defeated in elections, and somebody else--presumably the polar opposite of me--will take my place. So can you lose an election in the game? Because, if so, I'm well on my way...

Nope, there is no mechanism for national elections in NationStates - you can never be deposed from the iron throne atop which you rule. Even if that throne is propped up with ballot boxes.

Some people like to roleplay their national elections in the forums, but that doesn't have any effects upon their in-game statistics.
