New Martian Roleplay Region.

I would like to proclaim my intention to start a roleplaying region, based on the Solar planet of Mars. It will be a mapped region where nations claim territory on said map for roleplay purposes. Furthermore an off site forum will be created for the region, the idea behind that being that we will be able to coordinate more effectively.

To take part this is what you have to do...

You have to write. Yeah. You actually have to enjoy writing. Doesn't matter if you just want a colony or if you want to be a dispossessed native. Just as long as you write.

Anyone interested?

As you already are well aware, such a region already exists (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_region/region=The%20Planet%20Mars). Its off-site Role Play forums may be found here (http://z4.invisionfree.com/The_Planet_Mars). It was a good idea to start one some years ago, and I would have fully agreed with you were I around back in 2003.

Sounds interesting-a Mars yet to be sullied. Do we claim territory or what?

Really? I would have assumed that it was dead due to inactivity.

If you want to start a new region based on Mars, that's fine Auman, but lets leave the cheap shots elsewhere, okay?

There are multiple Mars regions.

Here's one Mars (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_region/region=Mars).

It's hard to get as much feel for the game and the regions as fast as it is for Cybernations. I have an idea for Mars (or anywhere else where life is only sustainable through cybernetics and emergencies don't allow for not my job mate) though, but might appeal more to older players more interested in economic and social systems than warfare. Read Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars and revive the moribund Demimonde board built to discuss them.

All three Marses could almost run simultaneously: Red as the early exploratory stage with few settlements under cover where survival and analysis come first, Green when corporate enterprise and the world's poor feature more in a world undecided whether to stay under wraps with an unbreathable atmosphere more suited to intensive agriculture, to make it a new Earth socially as well as physically, to leave it as a giant mine, as a New Age wilderness, or to develop a new 'spirituality' of the 'Areophany' where the planet will develop the people as much as vice-versa.

If anybody wants to think about the same sort of idea developed from Isaac Asimov's robotised Spacer worlds, whose foundation he never develops, there's scope there.

More or less by consensus the current Mars region linked to above exists somewhere between the Green and Blue stages of Robinson's Mars trilogy. If you have ideas for Role Plays, register on the Mars boards and try them out. Can also always come to #NationStates on esper.net if you have questions about RPing Mars or about NationStates in general.

Your name suggests Here be Dragons :) I think I might chase that up then. At the moment, Atlahan has only been around for long enough buy up 60 infrastructure, so that gives an idea of priorities. Is there a real map somewhere? It shouldn't matter but I like to have a picture of where I am

Nuts! I'm sure I answered this. Must have thought I'd sent it and hadn't  Your name suggests there might be genetically modified dragons :p There is at least one PERN game and I think I know the designer of one. I'll follow the Mars links up. Is there an actual map? I like to see a diagram, not just try to remember who's next door and so on. I do find the trading system a bit awkward, but right now, Atlahan is in the stage of just expanded to a whole 60 infrastructure, so I don't expect to be doing anything much more for another month or so.

CyberNations (http://www.cybernations.net/) is not NationStates (http://www.nationstates.net/). The two are separate entities which for all practical purposes have nothing to do with one another.

Odds are whatever information you're looking for related to RPing on Mars can be found on the Mars Boards (http://z4.invisionfree.com/The_Planet_Mars), which have already been linked to above. Since NationStates RPs are freeform nothing really stops you from doing your own thing, but that doesn't mean anyone else has to recognize it. A map of Mars (http://www.sunsetrpg.com/mapofmars.html) exists, and I strongly encourage you to read the stickies here on these forums and to poke around on the off-site forums linked to above, or to come to the IRC channel, if you have questions.
