There seems to be a lack of understanding of private property in the game.
For example, in the nation I am playing (which I ended up nameing after myself - in despair at finding a name that had not already been used by another player), I was faced with the issue over whether or not to allow the destruction of rain forest to get at a uranium deposit.
As I was told some the population of the "Confederacy of Paul Marks" were out of work and starving to death I allowed the enterprise. But I was not told who owned the rainforest - logically it should have been up to them whether or not to allow mining.
Even before the mining I was told by the computer system that the nation was suffering from deforestation - however, privately owned forests are normally well cared for (information the computer system clearly had not been programmed with).
Today I have been asked whether or not to ban the consumption of cannabis in all "public places". The computer generated pro ban argument has a factory owner saying that he is (under the present law) not allowed to stop his employees using drugs on the job - so I decided to support the "ban in public places". But I do not accept that a factory is a "public" place. Private property is just that - private.
The game does not seem to allow me to let the owners of factories, shops, bars (and so on) make their own choice about whether people are allowed to use cannabis on their property.
I have a feeling this lack of understanding of the concept of private property problem is going to get worse and worse as I go on with the game.
However, I will carry on. It will be interesting to see how libertarian I can be in a system that has clearly been set up by very unlibertarian people.
