It seems that NSTracker AND NSEconomy are both down. I was wondering if anyone had other calculators that I can use...

I've been using the Sunset calculator. http://www.sunsetrpg.com/economystatistics.php

The NSTracker code (which as far as I know is still working) can be downloaded from this site (http://sourceforge.net/projects/nstracker). Then, I presume it would be possible to host it independently of www.retrogade.com, which appears to have ceased to be. Alternately, you could email the developer. (joshua70448@gmail.com)

With NSEcon it is a different story, as the code itself appears to be broken; no-one has responded to the numerous requests to fix it, either, so I gather it's going to stay dead for a while.

depending on how large of a MySQL Database it needs, I could host it on my web host...

I like NSD... It gives me 3 times the defense budget Sunset does...

Learn by doing. Ain't nobody around to advise you.

Regardless of what you plan, my experience on the early NSwiki tells me that whatever resource you commit to it will grow exponentially. If you can't accept that, s'ok.

If you find that it's costing you too much $$ or other resource, you can always shut it down again. Such is the nature of freely-provided third-party additions. If the users hold it against you, they're probably assholes anyway.

what are economy calculators for? Are they supposed to be a regular part of the game?

They're 3rd party tools to help you know what your budgets are. There are several around.

Are they supposed to be a regular part of the game? Not as such, no. Many people use them for role-playing, but they're third-party non-supported for a reason.

In other words, they're non-canon.
