Some people where discussing who Max Berry's Alias is. The easiest way to find out is to find out which is the oldest nation. Any ideas?

Probably not. Either he never had a nation, or his nation died of inactivity long ago. Or he has many nations. And it's Max Barry. Not Berry.

One of the daily rankings is based on pop size. The largest nation has a good chance of being the oldest. Assuming he still has his original nation, and assuming that it is the oldest nation, that would be a good way to find it.

Not necessarily. In my Region, i am the 3rd oldest country, but have the least amount of population of 10 countries. The Pop size depends on the choices you make every day.

1)Who's Max Berry?

2) This is prolly in the wrong forum

3) The nation of praetor (http://www.nationstates.net/praetor) has the highest pop. Therefore, it is a good chance that this is the oldest living nation.

Maxtopia (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Maxtopia) was the first nation created, and Max's original nation. It's died out since then, and Max plays another, unknown nation.

Again, not necessarily. In addition to Sativaville's observations, several nations (and this account is one of them) have been inactive for periods of time before being revived, and their current population may therefore not reflect their original date of foundation.

There's also some randomness in population growth. I have 2 puppets that were created within days of each other, and the last time I looked the older one was slightly smaller than the other.

Are you sure it's not random, after all, I usually ignore my issues completely. I don't even bother to dismiss them.

The moderators have repeatedly stated that population size is independent of issue selection.

That's because of the population bug. Praetor was founded on 24 December 2002, and I can think of quite a few November 2002 nations offhand.

This has been an OOC post.

The oldest nation extant is Last Hope (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_nation/nation=last_hope). Nations such as Praetor are indeed larger, but as mentioned, that is due to the population bug.

The first nation created was Maxtopia. If revived today, I estimate Maxtopia would have a population of a little over one billion, as dead nations do not grow. (Nation age is also no measure of Max Barryness; Max could easily have multiple nations, as some of our ever-helpful moderators have insinuated, and they could be anywhere between 0.005 and 9 billion people strong.)

EDIT: also waves hello at Goober, did that real life thing work out ok? ;-)

For several months early in the game's life there was an exploit involving timing certain actions so that your nation would be hit by the daily update twice. This has since been patched but Praetor and a number of other nations made use of it to cheat. This is what is referred to as the population bug.

Since there was no way of knowing who had cheated and who had not the populations were not manually edited and so Praetor remains excessively huge - although it's about as legitimate as Barry Bonds' home run records.

That said, Maxtopia was the original NationState. For what it's worth, Menelmacar was founded December 19, 2002.

If revived today, I estimate Maxtopia would have a population of a little over one billion547 million, actually.

Thanks for the info. It's answered my question
