Is there any point to the UN?

Do UN descisions matter at all? They don't affect national Civil Rights, Political Freedoms, or economy ratings, nor do they change the economy and hardly anyone applies it to RP. Half the nations aren't even members, so what's the point of the UN?
To be there. Just like the real UN. :)
Actually, the UN resolutions do affect the stats of UN members. Also, the UN can be very important in regional politics. In many regions, the UN delegate is either the leader or the 2nd in command in the region.
