What's the best ways to advertise your region?

I am aware that you can only put ads in the five feeder regions, but does anyone have any tips and suggestions on achieving regional growth?

Don't post in the 5 feeder region! Send Telegrams to new nations about your region
Yes, telegramming nations seems to have better results than placing ads on the RMBs (but make sure those nations are in the feeders). I've been in two fast-growing regions, and both of them TGd very heavily and didn't advertise in the RMBs.

When I first started advertising for my region, I sent recruitment telegrams to lots of nations, and it didn't work. So I started posting my ads on the regional boards of the five feeder regions, and that seemed to work pretty well. Now, I'm doing a little bit of both. I think part of my problem may be that we're looking for a certain type of nation.
Also, I keep seeing several regions posting in the larger regions like Lazarus and The Rejected Realms. Don't they get in trouble for that?
