birthdate of a region

Hullo.

I believe I asked this question some time before, with no luck - hoping to catch the moderators this time :)

I would like to know when the region my nation is in was founded (Central Europe, that is the region). Also, would be a nice extra to find some more info on the founder ... but that is not terribly important.

Thanks!

We don't track that kind of information. You'll have to ask your regionmates.

Well, there's the rub, there are only two nations that are older than mine, and even they don't know it - apparently nobody knows anymore of the old Republic of Salo (the founder), nor any of the original members of the region. Sadly, not even a google search does reveal much.

Doesn't evey region have a corresponding file, which keeps its creation date (just throwing a suggestion)?

In any case, thanks for the reply!

We don't track that kind of information.

Apparently not. And considering that we've had problems in the past with running out of disk space, I doubt this would be implemented.

Well... let's see here... the record Delegate length is 29640841. Converting that into something useful gives us 343 days (roughly). So, you were Delegate for almost a year, thus the region is at least that old.

Going from the Founder is a little more complicated. His population is a little over 3.6 billion. A billion is (again, roughly) 6 months. This puts his age at about 1.75 years. He's been dead for a little over 5 months. With a little bit of rounding and guessing, I would say the region is between one and two years old.

As for actually recording the dates for regions, there's no need to do so, and it would simply take up space we really don't have.

Thanks for the info - on the other hand (and not to be ungrateful) it's a bit corrupted data. Just for the record (in case someone is also seeking this kind of information) here are the pitfalls.

1) I have been delegate for about two years, but have been invaded in the meantime, so I guess the estimate from record delegate length is just a rough lower limit.

2) The founder had ressurected at some point (I'm guessing a would-be invader tried this approach to bring us down), and died again; thus his life and the period of his death is again a rough estimate; add to this the probability that he actually lived a while before creating the region.

3) Even looking at the oldest nation in the region is not telling much, as I have it on record that she also came later, after founding.

My guess is that the region was created between October and December 2003 (making the region about 3 years old) - and I base my conclusion on pages that were kept at http://www.archive.org

(point in case:

http://web.archive.org/web/20031018102037/www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_region/region=central_europe

shows Central Europe with founder Odense; I think we can say with a good certainty that the date was 2003/10/18.

http://web.archive.org/web/20031211195446/www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_region/region=central_europe

shows CE with the current founder, and the date is likely 2003/12/11.
)

I found this yesterday after remembering about archive.org :) and after fiddling a bit with the pages there - sometime they were showing current content, due to the scripts and all. I am putting this here for the record, and for the possible delight of someone who would like to relive the good ol' times ;P

Thank you, moderators, for interest! And I'm guessing that even though you guys cannot keep old info on the ns server, we can definitely make use of the internet archive, it really is a swell site.
