Mine is the atlantean dolphin. Backstory: for English class, some of my friends and I had to design a utopia. We came up with something not totally unlike my current NationState, a democratic market-socialist society with liberal personal freedoms. But anyway, we had to come up with a "theme" to make our utopia more interesting, so we called it Atlantis. One of the members of our team was apparently obsessed with dolphins and kept trying to get us to sign this internet petition to save the dolphins, so we made its inhabitants dolphins. I carried this over to my NationState.

In retrospect, I should have called it the "Colorado Dolphin" in honor of the Colorado state law forbidding the hunting of dolphins from a moving car, but too late.

Mine is the komodo dragon. I had a puppet state that had as it's animal the high school student, but someone pointed out that purported human beings could not be used. Since it was a joke directly relating to the name of the state, I just let the state die.

I don't know who this was, so I can't report them, but I know from another forum that someone's was the homosexual, and then they got the issue about adding the national animal to the menu. It's quite funny to read if nobody takes offense.

Mine is the "school mascot" so I checked other. It is because my nation is supposed to be run as if it was a random public school so it's animal has to be a random school mascot. My runner up was "the eagle" because so (too) many schools have that as their mascot.

Mine is "the chicken with the flu" which is also on my nations flag.

I most certainly could leave it alone (and often do), but, believe it or not, the wumpus prefers Chopin to Mozart and, when not listening to either, actually likes to be hunted. It makes it feel wanted. :p

Mine is the Chimera, as in the Fullmetal Alchemist sort. On the original island for Tailville DR's fouding, long before Wagdog first went into the abyss, the first settlers of Wagdog (leftist US university students determined to build a new sort of socialist state than had been seen before) stumbled upon the apparent work of a Dr. Moreau-like mad scientist. More, one who'd even mastered basic Alchemy it turned out :rolleyes:, basic enough to turn humans and animals in his grasp into horribly mutated fusions that is.
After mercy-killing those Chimera that couldn't survive their mutations, the Wagdoggie founders decided to take responsibility for the life on their island and began to breed the Chimera into several distinct species, such as griffins and sphinxes most notably.:cool:

I recently changed my national animal, it used to be the 'Benevolent Evil Monkey'. The new animal is the Ateles belzebuth, known in english as the White-fronted Spider Monkey.

We in the Rafe system have two offical national animals; the Wolf, and the Raven.

We are a neoPagan/Tribal/Druidic people. The Wolf and Raven have a benefitical relationship that has been recorded many times in the wild.

That the two species can set aside their differences, and have become stronger from it is the reason for these Totemic to be represented at the offical level.

Looks like I stand corrected. However, as you said, HPL wasn't the most consistent writer, so perhaps I'm recalling one of his lapses.

Mine's the Raven :D No real backstory to the choice other than the Raven being associated with death/watching over the dead and that's something important to the people of Narwah.

Oddly enough, I later found out that my surname is derived from the old Irish word for raven - coincidence or what!

My national animal is A Series of Tubes. Any 4chan-ers or YTMND-ers will understand.

Mine is the wolf, because I have a socialist state and it's the only animal I could think of that travels in a pack. There is no other reason, and in fact the climate of my nation suggests that wolves would be very uncomfortable there (it's an island ex-Spanish colony, so it's probably in the Carribbean)

My national animal is the Ice Mammoth. Well for obvious reasons, my nation is the Frozen Heaven and thats where all the Mammoths go when they die:) . Also Frozen Heaven is the only place where Ice Mammoths are found.

The Chimera. Seeing how I founded my nation to be a mix of many nationalities it seemed to fit.

The frog... because I like frogs. So I put a picture of a "warrior frog" on the flag. I'm proud of myself. lol

Oh, and it fits with the fact that my nation is in a tropical area with undisturbed rainforests, so there are plenty of tree frogs. :D

the cameroin lion bear is small, cute and innocuous looking. like skunks whome they resemble only in their small size, they have a 'hidden' defense/offense. they are exteremely powerful psionicly. hence their name. they tap into their prey/attacker/perceived threat's own immagry. and generaly succeed in frightning away any would be preditor, even and especialy hoomans. who sometimes prize them for allies/comensals/'pets'.

their teeth arn't that long. their claws arn't that sharp. the're not even all that physicly active. but they can ALWAYS mess with your mind.

i mean REALLY mess with your mind. to the point of perminent mental damage.

if you ever get the chance to read it, or have already done so, it's the general idea what our cameroin lion bears are all about.

invading armies have been defeated by these creatures alone. needless to say, most cameroin citizens have a certain rapore with them.

they are so honored and revered they'd be a protected species, well in a sense they are, but they do quite a sufficient job of protecting themselves, even from habitat loss, which cameroi have learned to live with carefully avoiding doing.
