I am aware of the sticky, but for my purposes it does not posses the detail I require in making my decision.

I'm trying to get either a "New York Times Democracy" or a "Capitalist Paradise" with the following freedoms:
Economic: Frightening
Civil: Excellent
Political: Excellent OR World Benchmark

Attaining these statistics is no problem for me. My mind is set for my Economic and Civil aspirations; it's the Political I need help with.

I understand that if I content myself with "Excellent" Political Freedoms, then I will have a Capitalist Paradise, which is fine. However, I would prefer a "New York Times Democracy." To accomplish this, I would have to raise my Political Freedoms (I don't want to go above World Benchmark). In doing so, I might get a NY Times Democracy, but according to my sources, if I do so I might instead get a "Corporate Bordello," which I definitely DON'T want.

So I wish to consult one of you experts on this issue; if I raise my Political Freedoms so much, while maintaining high Economic Freedoms, is there a high risk of my getting a Corporate Bordello instead of a New York Times Democracy? My nation is not small; the population is 691 million as of today.

The best way to achieve a category of New York Times Democracy would be to:

a) Find an issue that stimulates the economy without actually increasing economic freedom (for instance, allowing big businesses to hold monopolies, which is detrimental to economic freedom but can increase the size of the economy), to get up to Frightening while remaining an Inoffensive Centrist Democracy.

b) Increase political freedoms and make any other necessary changes.

I believe there is one issue option that can achieve both goals at the same time, that is, allowing individuals and corporations to donate to political parties; but it could push you up to Corporate Bordello rather than New York Times Democracy.

I probably won't be much help, as I'm not very good at issue manipulation and continually fluctuate between Anarchy, Civil Rights Lovefest, and Left-wing Utopia without changing any other stats for some reason... but try it, and if you end up with the wrong government type look for an issue that decreases economic freedom (for instance, raising taxes or increasing welfare spending).

Yes. NYTD has medium economic freedoms, and Capitalist Paradise high; if you want the former, you would have to reduce economic freedom whilst raising political freedoms.

Try (gasp) bringing your economy down, while keeping your other stats the same. Careful, or your stats might get too good and you'll become an anarchy.:)

Thank you for the responses.

I wouldn’t mind the UN designation of anarchy so much if not for the "biker gang" and "perpetual fear" bit. :)

But my economy is the last thing I would want to sacrifice. I don't want to risk getting a Corporate Bordello, so I suppose I'll be content with a Capitalist Paradise. I’ll make "Citizens are either ruled by...multinational corporations" sound less like an outsourcing autocracy by manipulating the third paragraph with issues, once I have my freedoms at the desired levels.

Once my nation has become more established and I could afford to mess around a little, I would try Mauvasia’s recommendation.

Thanks for the help everyone.
