We have recently arrived. I am trying to determine, the advantages and disadvantages of joining the UN, but haven't found anything definitive.

Advantages:
- Some resolutions are good for your economy, or for certain other stats (e.g. if you want a big military, International Security resolutions will boost your defence spending)
- You can be part of UN free trade zones and other projects
- You get to influence UN policy
Disadvantages:
- You still have to obey resolutions you don't like
- The UN isn't overly respectful of sovereignty
- Generally, having to comply with other people's laws

In all fairness, you can stat wank, as described by hotrodia to avoid those. Although doing so is tedious. My advice is to just do what I did, make a sock and have it join the UN, rather than your main nation. Then if you decide you don't like it, abandon it.

Does that mean if I join with my main nation, I can not resign?
Another advantage to being in the UN is, you can vote for your region's UN delegate by endorsing the person you want, or even become the UN delegate. And in some regions, the UN delegate controls the region.

You can always resign. But some people want full control over their main nation's stats, and you don't have that in the UN.

No, you can. What I'm saying is you may find it more frustrating to join with your main nation rather than a throwaway sock. Statwanking is another option, but a bit tedious and not neccessarily worth it.
