For some reason my tax rate keeps going up, and I try not to chose the issues that would raise them. I really don't want it to go to 100% so is there a way to keep it down? Thanks

There is one way: dismiss every issue you get. Yes,tis sadly true. Your tax rates fluctuate, expanding and contracting with every issue you get. Sometimes it is a choice of don't dam up your rivers, or raise tax rates while doing so?

Besides dismissing, I can only give you one piece of advice: study every issue and it's choices very, very carefully before choosing one.

There's one option that gets rid of 1%. Eliminate the special interest taxes. I did that, and it eliminated my Welfare. Once I hit 35%, I wanted to get my tax rate low. I've fluctuated between 35 and 39%. Unfortunately I haven't gotten it down, but I've kept it from getting up to 40%.

I actually try to stay away from anything that says explicitly, it'll raise taxes. Instead, I look for tax lowering ones. I still look for ones that I don't want that lower taxes, and I usually don't choose that.

I personally hate to have all bad choices. I've dismissed tons of different choices.

Just totally get rid of one particular area of government spending. The most common to ditch is Defence, although if you roleplay you might not want that; nonetheless for each percentage point of the budget that goes into defence your tax rate drops around 3% (with a Frightening economy). There are also issues that get rid of Welfare, Law & Order, Education, Religion & Spirituality, and the Environment that I've seen so far. (And I've used all of them except the second, too.)

BTW, how much does Law and Order spending influence other factors, primarily the economy itself?
