That's been happening for the last few months. And there's naught we can do about it here.

The only thing I can suggest is offering to buy a better host server for Goob. ;)

If you refresh the page 2 or 3 times you will eventually get to where you wanna go. But then you loose changes to articles you make 90% of the time.

YES!!! FINALLY SOMEONE ADRESSES THIS!! I HAVE MY WIKI PAGE IN MY SIG, AND ON MY FAVORITES, AND IT ONLY WORKS 1/10 OF THE TIME! BUT THEN AGAIN, I CANT DO MUCH MORE THAN EXCLAIM IN ALL CAPS, TOO ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN!

PS. Refreshing wont work. You will keep getting the message. You have too close internet explorer and try again.

We're ... ummm ... not actually addressing this. NSwiki is a private site owned by a NS player, and there's only one person in the world who can improve that situation. Hint: he doesn't work for NationStates.

This has been a known issue for over a year. Specifically, NSwiki is a victim of its own success. Goobergunchia paid for a hosting plan that allowed 'x' amount of use of the mySQL database. Current demand is about '2x' or more. Consequently, lots of requests go bye-bye.

The solution is to move to a new host, or pay for a better connection plan. Since the player is heavily involved in Real Life right now, and only peripherally involved with NS these days, I would imagine that throwing money at the problem isn't a priority for him.

If one of you happens to own a commercial webserver farm and want to host it for him gratis, feel free to drop him a telegram. Don't bother offering your "I get 50MB website free with my ISP account" hosts. It's WAAY bigger and more bandwidth-intensive than your allocated free space.

Fortunately, I can call it a few months. I'm good like that.

Or I'm just old and it doesn't seem that long to me...

Actually I'd easily say this has been a problem since April. If not earlier. :( I extensive use NSWiki for the UN, IDU, and my nation.

I've offered to sell out some monthly cash Goob's way.

Unfortunately there seems to little or no progress as far as securing a better host goes. Goob has already refused an offer by wikia to host the site, according to a comment he made on this page (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Lightman) he is looking to secure a new host, but not wikia.

Personally, I think we should move it to wikia, which is a free wiki farm.

OOC: Sorry, that's not true--unless there's something wrong on your end. You may get the error message several times, but there's no need to close and reopen IE. When I use NSWiki, I just sit here with my finger poised over the F5 key.

Can we add things to Wikia for our own nations and/or regions? And why wont he move it there? I know its his site so his decisions I was just wondering specifics as to why.

Thats the mark of a true RPer if I've ever seen one, starting a post with "OOC" even when we arent in the RPing forums and this is inherently a OOC thread. :p It strikes the best of us. ;)

Yes, yes there is. You can start your own mini-wiki on the scratchpad labs wiki on wikia (http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Scratchpad_Wiki_Labs).

I've already started my own (http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Nationwiki), you can add to it if you want.

I haven't spoken to Goobergunch about this, but I'm betting it's because wikia is ad-supported. Goob is the kind of fiercely-independent cuss who would rather pay significantly more out of his own pocket than subject his visitors to ads he didn't want.

His wiki talk page indicates that he is in discussions with other web hosts, but the conversations are about technical issues like sub-domain creation. When he gets what he wants, he'll make the move ... and you can bet it'll be done right the first time.

Nothing is stopping anyone from creating competing wikis, though the name NSwiki is Goobers. There are several regional wikis. The West Pacific had theirs before NSwiki was started, I believe. Nonetheless, you'd be well advised to be patient with NSwiki. Nowhere else will you find such a massive data store of NationStates information.

He'll get there. Eventually. Be patient.

I asked him back when this problem started if he would accept donations, but he said it wouldn't help.

In the meantime, we can still add valuable contributions to NSWiki ... even if they are smaller articles.

On the subject of other NationStates Wikis, is there a list of these somewhere? That sounds like an excellent NSWiki article!
