Puppets?
I have searched the forums, and though many threads refer to puppets, I haven't found out why people use them or want them?
What is the motivator to running more than one nation, other than more to do? I'm very new to this, so my apologies if this question has been asked by hundreds before me.

Well, I don't know if anyone else has asked this in the past (seeing as I'm not too active here on the forums), but I do know that having established something like 8 nations that I can remember the names of between February 2003 and the present, I just like having nations to run. Although having four nations running at once doesn't really allow me to get into much detail, so maybe I'll have all of my nations except one be 'conquered' or inherited or something by another nation of mine, so then I'll have a bunch of puppets and one or two independent nations. If nothing else that could always happen in some alternate timeline.

I've used puppets because I wanted to roleplay a different sort of nation, because I wanted a nation with a particular name, because I needed to send a nation to another region for Ambassadorial duties, and things like that.

Mostly I use puppets so that I can have a nation in more than one region, allowing me to apply for citizenship in several places.
I also have a UN puppet so that I can vote in the UN, but my main nation is not affected.
I create puppets for the reasons mentioned. To have different types of nations, and to be present in multiple regions. It also allows me to have multiple personalities without getting placed in a mental hospital. :)
I do it to have more issue per day, and play different themes and such.

I use puppets for different kinds of RP; a terrorist nation when I want to be a terrorist (unaffiliated with my other states so there are no negative ramifications for my “goody two-shoes” countries); a FT nation for FT RP; a couple of puppets to provide RP settings; and so forth. Sometimes I never end up using them, but I keep them around just in case.

Some players use puppets to play with the effects of issues and UN resolutions -- trying desperately (or vying with others) to have benchmark economy, liberties, etc, no matter what.
One of mine exists because I needed a non-magic nation to do a particular RP. Another because I just liked the name. A third to post with from work (Ardchoilleans) so it's evident it's Ardchoille without risking my main nation looking like a multi if any of my workmates are NSers too. Another because ...<SNIP> ...
*some hours later* ... so, you see, that's why.
Thanks for the responses everyone!
