So, i just joined this evening because this looked like the coolest thing in the world, and i have one question after spending 10 minutes doing everything i could: what else can i do on Nationstates?
I set my limit to 2 issues a day, and i applied ot the UN. do things pick up after playing for a while? because its really neat but its over too soon every day
Same answer I posed to another newb.
Basically you have to go out and find stuff to do:
Create proposals for UN resolutions, roleplay and chat in the NS and regional forums, become active in invading and defending regions, create your own regional community... There's lots to do, but you have to do it for yourself. :)

Well, answering issues and being involved in the UN is as much game mechanics actually happen. However NS is more than answering issues and voting in the UN.
Find a good region and get involved in regional politics, many regions have off-site forums of their own, in combination with the Regional Message Board as provided by NS. IF you don't find a good region you can always make your own, but I'd only recommend this if you already have a network of friends in Nationstates.
Roleplay? This may or may not be your thing but getting involved in roleplaying is a good idea to keep you occupied for at least a while. If you don't know what roleplaying is, it is essentially "acting a part", you writing down what a fictional character in your ficitonal NS nation do and say. There are a number of good RP's but you can choose depending on the type of nation you have to create an introductory thread, A thread designated to initiate international interaction and introduce the major points of your nation, which should be expounded upon in further RP's. But this is only a suggestion and if it works for you, then great, but if it does not for you that's fine too.
Also in regards to the UN, you can engage yourself in the UN forum, put your IC (In Character, what your nation thinks rather than, you the player) or OOC (Out of Character, what you, as player, think about the issues. Also if you receive 2 or more UN Endoursements from your region-mates then you can submit UN Proposals that may eventually become a UN Proposal, though I'd recommend using the people in the UN Forum to help you create a good proposal, one that has a decent chance to pass.
Then there's regional delegate, the person with the most endoursements in the region becomes the UN Delegate for that region. Giving the UN Delegate more force in the UN (Your vote counts for more) and giving you the ability to give your support for various proposals if the total approvals for the proposals exceed 6% of total delegates then that proposal reaches quorum will come up for vote.
