Flag Discussion

Now I fully understand the whole no swastika business...

There is something I was vaguely curious about though. I have been thinking of what would happen were someone to create a Nation with a Hindu basis? I live part of the year in India and know just how common that particular symbol mentioned above is... (on TV, grafitti, in art)

Would say a flag with a picture of Ganesh in the centre and one of those symbols on either side of it be deemed illegal by the moderation team? It should clearly be associated with Hinduism and therefore not Naziism.

I'm not planning to do it. I'm just curious.

I am not a moderator, but I go by a simple rule: if you have to ask, it's probably not a good idea.

The symbol for peace is actually different from the Nazi Swastika.

The Nazi version had the top "arm" facing to the right, and the Hindu version usually to the left.

Hindu:

Nazi version not shown, due to forum rules.

Wikipedia also says that some Hindu versions also had dots in each quadrant:

(And yes, I know that this one points to the right. That's why I said usually.

So to be safe, put dots in the quadrants of a left-faceing swastica.

The dots are very common, but as often as not a Hindu version of the symbol has the arms facing right.

I have seen for example a similar image to the one I suggested, but with the arms always facing towards the centre. Ie the symbol on the left has the arms facing right and the symbol on the right has them facing left.

In Hindu carvings I have also seen a latice bewtween two rooms with one row of left facing symbols above a row of right facing symbols, above a row of left facing symbols until we hit ground level.

I would definitely include the dots and probably make the arms wavey were I to do it. Similar to this design...

I guess the key question of this thread is do we think that the population of NS is intelligent enough to register that in this setting the symbol is Hindu?

Nazi version not shown, due to forum rules. There were never forum rules against the Nazi version.

As for the question of a clearly Hindu nation, using a clearly Hindu flag, incorporating a clearly Hindu swastica, I believe that is allowed.

Thank you!

I know it's kind of a weird question, especially considering I don't intend to actually do it. Last time I was in India though I saw that everywhere, and it got me thinking...
