The Republic
Strenght and honor, prosperity and fairness. The Republic stands as a halmark for such things, and sets an example for the rest of the galactic community. Listed herein are brief details about what makes us great and sets us apart from every other Joe and Bill region/alliance.
Civil
Based on the ideas of the great philosopher Plato, and the government of the Roman Empire during it's earlier years, the Republic is well organised, and fairly governed. Under the appointed Senate, laws are created, diplomatic ties formed, and territory expanded. Our conscript fathers take the time to debate every issue down to the smallest detail to ensure the Republic stays strong and grows.
The People's Assembly, the counterpoint of the Senate, is where all citizens who do not hold a seat within the marble halls of the Curia can come and express their individual opinions in a free and constructive area. Citizens may debate and vote on issues brought up by other members, or create their own. While the Pleb's Assembly holds no executive powers, all resolutions passed by the people are passed on to the Senate - via Tribune of the Plebs, an elected official from amongst the People who holds a seat within the Senate, and has the power to veto anything not unanimously supported by the Senate - where the just Senators further discuss the issue and determine whether it truly benifits the Republic as a whole.
Our close-knit society has transformed us into not simply an alliance, but in essence one giant nation. Citizens trade freely both ressources and technology, and the standardized currency, denarii, sees that all nations prosper at the same time, not just the rich. Our common laws, which aren't many, keep all nations within the Republic to a standard; and while we tend not to encroach much into the sovereignty of individual member governments to create and enforce their own laws according to their own customs, the Republic has its own courts and legal system to ensure order.
The Legion
The most unique aspect of our alliance, which is most different than all others, is the combined military forces. Citizen nations are given a singular legion to call their own, and this force can grow depending on the deeds they perform for the Republic. The rest of each nations military is split up into the different legions of the Republic, in which they serve with troops from every member nation. This allows a greater sense of brotherhood, and eliminates the weaknesses of the military by counterbalancing it with other nations forces. It also ensures that the big guys can't use their superior numbers to intimidate the little ones into supporting them, furthering the equality that all citizens hold.
