Raising taxes?

Well, I used to have rather high taxes, in the 70's or so, but I got spammed with the Quoth the Poet issue (which slashes taxes heavily if you oppose special interests) about fifty-seven times in a row and cut taxes to the point that income tax is gone.

Trouble is, I want to get a more reasonable tax rate, in the area of 50's or 60's to improve my defense budget so I'm able to wage war. (Simply shifting money to the defense budget won't work, the money is not there. Besides, I don't want 90% of my funding to go to defense, like it does in a lot of nations.)

Any ideas what issues have options where you can increase taxes without becoming too capitalist, wrecking the environment, ruining the economy, hurting freedoms, or contributing to the obscenely high crime rates in my nation?

Also, what issue options increase administration? I'd like to avoid them, administration is worthless. Information on issues that affect government waste is useful, too.

Basically, what I'm after is a reasonable tax rate, reduced crime, unimpaired civil and political freedom, a frightening economy, and reduced government waste.

Raising taxes is easy (unless you've had 0% income tax for a while and have been continually lowering it while you do like Hack). Simply answer issues that support government programs (spending more money on defense, education, healthcare, or whatever), raise tariffs on anything, or support taxing the wealthy (there's at least one).
