Could someone please teach this n00b(me) how to play this game, and how to get a better nation?

There's no real information you need to know; every day you'll be presented with an issue (you can increase or decrease the number of issues you receive in your settings), and you decide what you think should be done. My nation is one of morals; I decide the issues based on what I think is right, whatever the effect on the economy or the people. Your nation could be more democratic, going with what the majority wants, or it could be more dictorial, doing what YOU and only you want. The key thing to remember is that it is just a game, and that in this game you can't win or lose. Just do what you think should be done. That's all you need to know! Beyond the issues you decide, there really isn't much to do.

People 'play' nationstates many different ways. You can join a region, where maps are set up, alliances are made, and invasions are planed. Another route is roleplaying on the forums. Here you can 'invent' your nation - being reasonable - and interact with other nations through war, commerce, or other scenarios. Nationstates allows you to go many different directions with your nation.

Read the FAQ and all the stickies in all the NS forums and you will learn a lot of intersting information but the best way is simply to play the game and get involved in regions and here on the forums.
