I would like some advice on how to build a resonable military.

I do know resonable amounts about military matters but my knowledge is a bit outdated as to modern technology.

I have a population of 399 million and a military budget of just over 585 billion US$ per year, I don't have conscription and my country is an island nation.

I was going to standerdise on 7mm intermediate rounds but apart from that i'm not too fussed.

I would however like most of my weapons to be domestically built as otherwise you get supply problems so advice on how to design your own would be great.

Seriously, it's possible to design your own stuff without knowing much. Just assign some basic stuff (for example, all my tanks use 120mm ETCs, all my airplanes use VIOLA computers, etc.) and refer to a technological background if you need to know capabilities.

Oh, and wait until you have a population similar to mine before going to war. (almost 900 million people, but 800 million is fine)

I have decided to go with
Fabrique Nationale Herstal F2000 (Belgium) as my rifle
Mk.47 (Mark 47) Striker 40 automatic grenade launcher / machine gun (USA) as a heavy infantry support weapon and mounted on light vehicles
RPG-29 antitank grenade launcher (USSR / Russia) as my man portable anti tank weapon
Fabrique Nationale (FN) BRG-15 (Belgium) as my heavy machine gun (this thing is a monster)
FN Minimi (Belgium) / M249 and Mk.46 model 0 (USA) as my machine gun
FN P90 (Belgium) as my submachine gun to be issued to naval landing parties, air force, non infantry soldiers
Leclerc as my MBT (but with the machine guns I've decided opon earlier)
PzH 2000 as my artillary piece
Marder 1A3 as my infantry mover (but with the machine guns i've decided on earlier)

still to decide navy and air force (will probably design my self) and some parts of my army (anti air, mortars etc.)

Its always benificial to design and produce your own arms and ammunition. By producing quality products, you promote your own economy and other nations may be interested in buying or marketing your products.

Even designing a cleaner burning bullet to further help prevent M16 jamming is helpful. All the little things that count.

Hot soldiers are never a bad thing either. :p

yeah, she'd be well qualified for recruiting.

and brondi, don't be afraid to try things that are a little odd, like an XF-5 as a close support plane. (although there is some controversy as to wether or not the frame can withstand the load of four M61 autocannons, or if it is limited to the lighter M197)

I was going to use tornados and maybe a couple of eurofighter squadrons as my main combat air craft.

yeah I'm trying to think outside the box a little bit and find the best weapons for how i'd fight with my country
