An issue with Issues

Why do so many people use issues to debate politics? When I get issues, most of them written by NS members are about a political hot spot and the only options are to follow their view or choose some thing so radical that it only shows the slant of these people. What's wrong with actually offering moderate solutions to problems? Some things are clearly black and white, but not everything is.

I don't agree with any of the options on this issue!
Dismiss it, then. This is the equivalent of ignoring an issue until people stop talking about it and there's not so much pressure to do something. If you were a real government, you'd do this all the time, of course, but in NationStates it's more interesting if you respond to issues by actually making decisions.

Not all the issues are one-sided; think the 'elderly gentleman sitting on the bench' options. There are many other moderate choices in issues and they are written so that you can choose what you feel on the issue (or closest to it) or failing that dismiss it. Or write your own.

The options are meant to be exagerated views - it's part of the humour of NationStates.
