This is probably going to aggrivate a few of you, but the friend who ushered me to play this game, told me there was a way to enhance your country via exploration, defenses, etcetera.
One simple question. How?

A lot things aggrivate a lot of people. Dont worry about aggrivating anyone here as you could be perfectly nice and still aggrivate someone, some people are just a TAD hot tempered, but that doesnt aggrivate me! :p

I believe that either A) your friend is misleading you or B) your friend has no idea what hes talking about or C) your friend has not fully explained himself clearly enough.
One simple question. How?
You can roleplay (RP) your nation's growth and expansion, like we do in my region, but this is not a part of the in-game experience. You dont push buttons to grow or expand, your population just goes up every day, and your three traits go up and down depending on your issue answers.
If he means through playing the issues, then I suppose you are merely fleshing out your nation, not really expanding it.
