hey guys,

is there a limit to how big a country can get? im asking because i notice that all the countries that win the polls are the ones with the big populations. now, i think it will be cool when i have populations that big, but by the time i get to population 6 billion or whatever, those other countries are going to be even bigger. so is there any way for a small country who didnt join up right when nationstates was formed to ever win a poll, or even come close? cheers

Well, while the absolute difference remains about the same, the relative distance shrinks. So, yeah, when you get to be six billion, other countries will be at twelve billion. But you'll be half their size instead of 1/1200th their size. While bigger countries will still have a big advantage, you can start getting decent ratings in the polls then. You'll probably never win. But you can get under a thousand, which is always a good rating or you can win in your region. The polls don't just measure size. They mostly measure how you answer in issues.

I've seen small nations win a UN poll too, I've been around for a while now and I've never gotten past 10.000. I'm just too centrist!

Plus, as a nation gets older, the likelyhood of expiration, deletion etc, for various reasons, increases. So a balance is established, somewhat, in new nations vs old nations.

And remember that behind each NS nation is a human, and humans don't live forever. While it sounds a bit cruel, it's also true, and if the game lasts long enough....

The last nation alive in NS will probably be a bot.

it is a weakness shaired by ns and real life that populations only seem to increase and never diminish. actualy even real life makes exceptions. and a population emplosion in real life could someday happen globaly, even as it happens occasionaly, very temporarily and very localy irl. but ns, near as i can tell, has no provision for this. i believe i may have raised this as a tec question once upon a time. and my understanding is its a matter of avoiding another complication in the game mechanics.

i for one LIKE SMALL (and eco friendly without going anti tec, which might not be all that eco friendly as fantacised anyway). but then i'm also more interested in usefull and sustainable tangable infrastructure (and yes there IS challange and gratification in building, maintaining and opperating them) then i am in either conflict or accumulation.

which there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of mmo's appealing to my perspective either. i'm not sure exactly what that's saying something about. or rather what percentage of living organizms might aggree with my perspective.
