What do I need to know to effectively run a FT nation?

Well effectivly you need to know where to draw the line between possible and godmod. Other than that you just need a creative mind and you're set. Just try looking at other FT nations that are out there (not the ones who tend to GM to no end).
EDIT: Oh and for the love of god don't build a deathstar.
