How is it that one of my nations, a Democratic Socialist one, got ranked behind a bunch of dictatorships and consumer states in terms of compassion? I mean, socialism is about HELPING PEOPLE.

If you're just joking around, then I don't know if the mods enjoy sarcasm in a serious board. But I'm not a mod so I'm not going to act like I know what they care about and what they don't.

If you're being serious; it really depends on the issues that you choose. Obviously, throughout real history socialist nations have not always been compassionate - I mean look at Democratic Kampuchea [Cambodia] - 2 million dead are a testament to that. But this is getting into a political discussion, when it really should not.

I believe that this stems from the same problem as a description such as this, which I believe I had at one point:

The Peaceful Idealist Utopia is a huge, socially progressive nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates...

...the average income tax rate is 100%...
The stats aren't always calculated from the same place. Because your ratings are such that you get labeled as something you deem "helpful" doesn't mean other parts of your stats correspond to that.

Correct. Different decisions weight differently upon your nation. Unfortunately, each decision you make, though it impacts your nation, is independent of the rest of the decision you make. That means that, though they add up to give your nation a category, they may all affect you differently whereas World Rankings are concerned because each decision does not correspond to another one.

Well, I'd say 100% tax rates are quite punitive - punitive meaning punishing.

Just because a nation is 'socialist' doesn't mean it is compassionate. It could well be dictatorial socialism, a la Stalin. On the other hand, some 'dictators' can be very benevolent (at least to start with).

In any case, the nation type has absolutely no effect on national stats or the rankings.

What can be expected in this day and age? Socialism has been defeated in many empires throughout history, and they have seen it as an evil. Depending on the views of the people and the knowledge they have of history and politics, they may see you in a positive or negative light. Hard to tell really, except that some socialist empires have not been very good to their people.
