I used to, but it was killing me keeping up with them, so I let them die.

This is a puppet nation I'm posting with. And there are dozens of reasons for using puppets. Here's some:
To see the effect of different answers to issues.

With UN puppets, to protect your main nation from the statistical effects of UN decisions (personally, I don't do this, but I can see the point for some).

To vary your technology levels.

To explore different systems of government.

To play both magical and realistic nations (that's why Findhorn exists)

To establish permanent embassies in another region

To have a "good guy" nation and another of questionable reputation for those days when you've feeling snarky (but not too snarky, since the mods can tell who the player is and you don't want your 'good' nation hurt by the doings of your 'bad' one).
A related question (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4567290) was running on the UN forum, until things got a little ... spirited.

I have three nations - this one; The Envoy Of Safalra, which I use for diplomatic missions to other regions; and English Recruitment, which I use for recruitment.

Well... yes. I'm delegate of TNP with a puppet. :p

I love doing the issues with puppets. That's really why I have most of them. Or because I thought of names and grabbed it. :)

Well, typically, you stick your hand inside a sleeve of some kind, and then draw a face on the outside. Then when your hand moves, the face is animated. Like magic! :D

And if you can't afford a sock, just draw eyes on and below your index finder and move your thumb to make it talk. *giggles insanely*

As far as I am concerned, the term "puppet nation" is overused. "Puppet" implies that it is not truly sovereign, that it answers to some other state authority. A good real-world example of this would be the Soviet Bloc. Running multiple independent countries or different tech/reality versions of the same country does not qualify those countries as puppets; as they either are independent of one another or exist in seperate realities entirely.

I have been known to use multiple nations, but not puppet nations. Currently, for the record, I have only one nation.

Excellent distinction. I completely agree. And my pu- I mean, I have one sovereign nation that is my UN one, and this is my political lovechild nation.
