Region Defender Army tips?

Anyone got any? For you see, my Region is trying to form a defender army to get involved in the Invader/Defender game on the Defense side. However, few of us have been involved in I/D in any way shape or form and have no idea what to do.
So can anyone give me a few pointers, please?
Thanks in advance.
First of all, create a regional forum. If you already have one, create a subforum for discussing invading/defending.
Get someone who knows what they're doing to pick a region to defend, and appoint them Defense Minister/Minister of Military Operations/Whatever.
Listen to what they say....
(Sorry I can't be much help here.)

If you're into defending, then forming alliances is always good. Invaders will make sure they have enough UN nations, so you're going to need back-up. You could also join an defender organization. The ADN for example (although they've been fucking slow processing our application).
As to the technicalities of it, I suppose communication is the main thing. Check that you know who everyone in your region is, that your UN nations are active and all endorse the delegate, and that the delegate is active. Invasions often happen shortly before updates, as then they don't have to survive long before they can start kicking threats, so you need to be more watchful then.
That said, there are vastly more experienced defenders who you might talk to: Crazy Girl springs to mind, for example.

We only have a single thread where we are brainstorming right now. Here it is. (http://atheisthaven.proboards52.com/index.cgi?board=discussion&action=display&thread=1129169177)

It seems I'm the most experienced, but I have no idea how to command an army.

Don't apologise. Thanks.:)

Oh, one other thing: you should communicate with any of your allies, to keep informed about whether any obvious invasions are being planned. Pretty obvious, I guess, but thought I'd still say eet.
-snip-
There are other people with more information than me; we just have to wait for them to respond.
Also, make allies with other nations that want to defend. (For example, my region Athar is one; if you wish to become allied TG our Foreign Minister, Neo Kervoskia.)
I'll also keep an eye on this thread because we want to have some action too and don't know what to do about it...

Makes sense. I'll see what I can do.
Anyone want allies?

I'll check.
When do the updates usually happen? In GMT?

Obvious advice is sometimes the best. Thanks.:D

Well, firstly, we'd be willing to make an alliance.
Also, the update times are, I think, about 8ish am and pm GMT. Watch the UN page, and you'll get an idea: it's when proposals are deleted, delegates changed, etc.

Really? Yay!
Contact me via TG and we can discuss this better.

Agh! Such bad time for me!
That's why you ally yourself with other people. For example, for me that's about 3-4 PM, and I'm usually online during that time. For someone in California it's 1 PM. For someone in Russia it's 11 AM, and so on.

I'm not sure about those. Could be later. I think there's something about it in the Tech Sticky.

Found it:
When do the updates run? What do they do? How long do they take to complete?
There are two update times, which (regardless of any official terms) I call the "major update" and the "minor update". During both updates, any issue choices made by your nation are processed and for nations set to two issues per day (or per weekday), an issue is placed in there issue box. Extra things happen only during only the major update. First off, the Delegacy of a region can only change hands during this time. Also, the UN rankings are updated during the update (as it cycles through the regions) and the new list is posted at the very end of the update.
Update times:
Major: Between 2 to 4 AM EST in my experiance - Exact ending time is variable, but can be verified by the new UN Rankings being published.
Minor: I haven't figured out when this has been ever since the Jolt move, but I'd guesstimate between 2 to 4 PM EST.
What's that in GMT?

-5, I think
So that is 7-9, which is about what I said. I think it varies a little. Anyway, given how inaccurate that it, it's not a major concern...just obviously it's easier to not get kicked for an hour than for four.

major update (the one interesting for defenders and invaders) starts at 7 am UK timeand runs till about 10.30-11.00
dear Sal made it all harder too...
dynamic updates: regions update in random order within the update's timeperiod.
one update per cycle per UN nation. meaning your endo only counts once every update. if you are in a region, and it updates, you're finished for that round.
i take it you know the whole endo your man thing to nab delegacy ?
defending goes into several ways
if there is an active native delegate, just boost up his number and send him a tg with a list of invaders. make sure your own guys don't look like a threat by not cross-endorsing each other.
in case of no delegate or an inactive one, you could always endo another active native, however this is risky (messing up internal politics, invader plant, etc). Safer is to pick a lead within your own group and let them kick the invaders out.
liberations are also harder with the random update....more like russian roulette.
i think you also know most of the rules, but just for the safe side...
no spamming. this goes for regional happenings, civil HQ, people's TG-boxes..
No flaming. If an invader flames you, ignore or report through GHP. best is not to talk on the CHQ at all, or just a little note by the lead explaining to natives what happened.
and of course, one UN nation per player/IP/computer...something like that
For the delegate:
passwording the region: sometimes needed, but remember to pass out the password to all natives immediatly. This must be done through telegram, not WFE, CHQ, forums....
Make sure it's clear too, no tricks, riddles and all that.
no banning natives. Now, I can't see why a defender would need to kick a native, but you never know...10 % as unofficial guideline, but best to stay wel under. and of course unban immediatly.
you can eject and ban all the non-natives you like.
Now, as for getting started..
These days networking is important. Get allies who defend and are experienced. Join an alliance of defenders, so you know where the place to be is, and you can profit of intell operations to make it easier to find regions to defend.
And as for a little recruiting...Joining the Alliance Defense Network is an option:p

This sounds important to learn. Thanks!

I think I know what you're talking about: endorse a fellow defender so (s)he can kick out invaders, right?

Hmm...sounds like you need to know your intel pretty well.

The second one sounds wiser.

Sounds more fun that way.

Devader?
Defender + Invader = Devader
Because unfortunately the majority of defenders end up becoming something across from a defender + invader. Even the ones with best of intentions. I personally feel that it's a regions responsibility to defend itself. The extention of that is that it's member nations should supply the combined military needed to defend. I'm don't particularly care for some so called Defender group to enter the region I belong to and "Defend" it. It just sets a bad precident in my opinion.

Oh yeah, joining ADN..
I think signing up on the forum ( http://s7.invisionfree.com/adn_reloaded ) and following the registration process in the introductions forum, then filling in the application form. You could of course always contact Pope Hope.
