Is the economy of a single nation influenced by the economy of the other nations in the region? For example if a region consists of nations with imploded economies will they drag down a new nation?

No.
Your nation cannot be affected by other nations. The only things that can influence your nation's economy - and indeed all aspects of your nation - are issues and UN resolutions. It doesn't matter what other people do, whether they're in your region or not.
Some people try to produce more detailed economic figures for their nation. To do so, they sometimes use [http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Calculators]calculators such as [http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com]NSEconomy. These calculators do incorporate the region into producing trade figures. However, these are unofficial, and shouldn't be regarded as reflecting the game code. You may of course also choose to RP that some nations have effects on your nation.
So (as far as we know, anyway) the state of other nations in or out of your region does not and cannot affect your nation.
