underage UN delegates

If you ask me, people should not be able to be UN delegates if they are under eighteen. Im eleven, seriously, but i still dont think you should be able to be a UN delegate if you are not even old enough to vote. :headbang:

That would ruin everything because many NSers are aged between 13 and 17. Also, its not a vote. Endorsing a naarion means there is something you like about usually, or you can be doing it because of an invasion. Your idea of having a minimum age to be a delegate makes no sense.
C'mon, the game isn't that serious.
Besides, I may be only <my age deleted so people can't find out who I am :p>, but I'm still about as mature as an 18-year-old.... sometimes anyway.... <_< >_>

Absurd. How could you possibly enforce such a rule in a community this size?

Sometimes I suspect there is an age limit -- only pre-schoolers allowed! :p
Seriously, though, high schools organise mock-UNs; some primary schools do, too. In its way, NS UN is another of these. (*calls up Magic Invisibility Dome to resist attacks by those who insist that NS UN has no relation to real life, none at all, it's in the rules. Yeah, I know.*)
The difference between the NS UN and the schools' mock UNs is that voting in this one has effects, and if you keep your nation in the UN, you can see them happening.
I don't think anyone's ever too young to learn that actions -- even cyber-actions -- have consequences.
Besides, anyone who's old enough to join up here is old enough to have some opinions about the world around them, and being a delegate to the NS UN really does help make those informed opinions, despite the fireworks. Defending your position against (in some cases) really good debaters clarifies your own thoughts.
Sometimes the non-UN part of delegates' jobs might seem a heavy task for younger folk, but there's plenty of help around if you ask. Most players are relatively good-natured and relatively sane.
Except for spending so much of our time in a world that doesn't exist, of course.

Placing age limits on delegacy wouldn't ultimately be a very good idea. Aside from the fact that it would be impossible to enforce, it simply isn't a reflection of NS. Ok, so in many countries you have to be 18 to vote: but here on NS, people under 18 can vote on issues, can vote on UN proposals, can submit UN legislation, can RP political scenarios...none of which would be affected by your suggestion. Also, it assumes that those under the age of 18 shouldn't vote: perhaps here is an example of where NS can set a trend, and wait for the world to catch on. Finally, it would spoil the enjoyment of the game - and let's not forget that that's ultimately what this is - for many people, both under and over 18. I take your point that sometimes it's frustrating when obviously poor legislation gets passed, but I strongly doubt age alone accounts for that in any case.
(This, of course, excludes entirely the Gameplay element of delegacy, because there is absolutely no justification for imposing an age restriction on this area of the game.)

Quite honestly, I think it's idiotic in real life to have to wait until you're 18; I'm 17 right now, and people that I couldn't vote for/against are making desicions that are affecting my life. If you're old enough to get a driver's license, you should be old enough to vote. I know that that doesn't drop the age limit by much (two years where I live), but I think that its only fair...

...And people don't magically get smarter the day they turn 18. I agree with SG on this.

I don't know that age is all that relevant anyway. I've met plenty of stupid old people and plenty of stupid young people. However old the people are, only a few of them are really intelligent, in my experience.
hey! I'm smart enough to make decisions, being <<under 18>>. my concern is that some who join the UN just don't care about resolutions.
