Just How Libertarian Can My Nation Be?

Marginal Liberty

I played NationStates a year or two ago, got bored and quit. Since then, my political ideas have become a little more extreme -- right now I'm leaning heavily toward anarcho-capitalism. I'm thinking about starting over yet again but I'd appreciate some clarification first if someone would be willing to provide it.

The basic idea behind a libertarian (and anarcho-capitalistic society) is not the abandonment of education, law enforcement or good will but simply the privatization of those aspects of society through the establishment and expansion of parallel institutions (private charities in place of wlefare, security firms in place of police, etc.)

So, what I want to know is if my government stays out of all private affairs, will that inevitably mean that my people will be uneducated, poorly protected, and left without any mass transit, safety net or rain forests? :(

I find myself in a similar position. I took up NS a few months ago as a libertarian/anarcho-capitalist to see how my nation would look. For one, I have been able to maintain an income tax rate of 0%, which is consistant with my beliefs. However, on many issues that occur, the libertarian is forced to the lesser evil of several non-libertarian options. I have tried to cut government intervention wherever I can, but my government still is massive. To be short, it is possible to obtain a libertarian-ish state, but relatively impossible to get a nation that resembles anarcho-capitalism in an significant way.

Hope that helps out!
