About Recruiting

I know that it is not illegal by game rules to telegram regional advertisments to nations that are not in feeder regions. But others think that it is, and they send me telegrams saying I should be careful.

I would like to know from the mods whether or not you can send telegrams asking people to come to your region. Also, if it is not, why cant in the rules it say something more specific about telegrams?

I know you said 'from the Mods': if you really do want a Mod-only response, then I'm happy for you to ask them to delete this.

Recruitment telegrams may be sent to residents of game-created regions. No 24-hour rule here - one per nation, period.

My bold.

I think that's pretty specific.

Totally forget this thread, I read the fact thing on here and I see the rules.

But I do have to say this is not very enforced, and in all my months sending out telegrams people actually seem to accept them. So I think no matter what the rules say, the majority of the Nationstates community sees recruitment telegrams as a comonplace and acceptable. Even if they are annoyed by them I think that they think telegrams are accepted by the rules.

Also I do not believe the rules are really put out there. I think in the first telegram that each nation gets there should be either an overview of the rules or links to places that they can learn the rules.

Thats my two cents.

Thats my two cents.

In the NS Universe, the 'cent' doesn't have a standard value.

Anyway, just because few nations have complained, and some nations have even rejoiced, at your TG campaign doesn't in any way affect its legality. I'm not offering any kind of judgement on that: it's not my place. I would merely advise that, given the clarity of rules set out by the Mods, that TGing members of player-created regions could potentially be interpreted as adspam. It's your call, and your risk, though, and this isn't any kind of official opinion.

As for setting out rules clearly, there has been discussion of linking to the One Stop Rules Shop from the FAQ, or starter Telegram. I don't know how far such ideas have progressed. However, in the OSRS, and in other Stickies in various forums, including those in and linked to from Gameplay, rules on this and other matters are clearly set out. If you think they need to be advertised more clearly, then it is your prerogative to submit a request to the Moderators, bearing in mind previous requests of this nature and their outcomes.

Finally, and again this is totally non-official, I have observed Mods state before that 'ignorance is not an excuse'. They have gone to the effort of codifying a rules structure: it is not unreasonable to expect you to read these rulings and abide by them. They cannot possibly have enormous neon signs at every juncture of NS activity directing you as to the legality or otherwise of actions. If you believe there is a case for advertising the rules more clearly, then so be it. But until such a time as your suggestions are acted upon, you should probably attempt to familiarise with the rules as best you can, so that you at least know when you're crossing a line.

Sorry for being so dull and depressing. Maybe we should lighten this thread with some of your amazing jokes, like the one in your really funny signature.

Hardy har har. Lol.

Anyhow yes I am stopping my telegram campaign to people outside the feeder regions.

And also about your comments, not everybody goes to the forums, which is where the rules are. Its just a concern. But even just before I started typing this, I got a recruitment telegram! I did not warn him or anything, I just added him to my ignore list. So I am just putting my opinion into the fact that, rules regarded or not, I think that most nations here see telegrams as part of nationstates and there is really nothing they can do about it. So I am just wondering, now from the mods, how important is upholding this particular rule of not sending recruitment telegrams? Also on average, how many complaints about recruiting do you guys get?

I doubt they'll answer that - but anyway, this isn't the forum for this. Ask mod questions of Mods in the Moderation Forum. Although that doesn't mean I'm suggesting asking this particular question is a good idea.

Yes of course. They wont answer anyhow. But it would be nice to know. I think we should stop this thread now sonce I think we have our points put out that even though it is against the rules, it seems it is one of the least known rules. What do you think man?
