Is there any good free software people can use to make custom maps, say, to make a nice looking map for your own nation/region? I hate being stuck with paint all the time. xP

The only other option I know is making a map using both CivNet, print screen power and paint for landmarks.

I believe the keyword here is "FREE".

You could always try GIMP.

I use DrawPlus 4 for mine - you can download it from http://www.freeserifsoftware.com

And if you're really interested, here's the result (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/bettia/map.gif).

I did our regional map in Illustrator and worked on it in Photoshop, but it is not as detailed, since I had over 400 countries to think about (only 233 made it onto the first map). Mine is just pretty to look at, but doesn't have much info, nor does it do tricks. If I figure out how to add the html in Photoshop, I may get more creative. :p
