I like you guys better than General, so I'm sticking this here. If anyone can provide the correct answers (no browsers, please) to 3 of these riddles, I will give them a prize. If they can give all 4 correct answers, they will be my best friend. I cannot guarantee the prize will have any real world value. Or the friendship. ;)
1) There are 5 animals, A, B, C, D and E. Each animal is either a wolf or a dog. The dogs always speak the truth, and the wolves always speak lies. A says that B is a dog. C says that D is a wolf. E says that A is a dog. B says that C is a wolf. D says that B and E are of different species. How many wolves are there?
2) There are three boxes which each contains two marbles: one has two white, one has two black and one has one white and one black marble. Each of the boxes also is labeled as to its contents, but each label is incorrect. What is the fewest number of marbles you could remove from the boxes and look at in order to definitely determine the contents of all three boxes?
3) A witch captures a trick-or-treater on Halloween and takes him back to her lair, ties him above a pot of oil and places a huge cage of bats next to him. She says "I will let you say one more sentence. If the sentence is true, I will boil you in oil, but if the sentence is false, I will feed you to the bats!" She cackles and awaits the reply of the little one. Suprisingly, he escapes with his life. What was his sentence? (this is MY riddle!)
4) A man needed to pay his rent and was out of money, but found that his rent was worth about one gold link on his chain per day. What is the fewest number of cuts he can make in his 23-link chain to pay the rent for up to 23 days?
