I just have a quick question and while I'm sure this is already answered somewhere I can't wait for the forum's dreadfully slow search engine to execute.

For a country which has not instated a draft, what percentage of the population would typically be enrolled in the military?

If someone could promptly give me an answer I would be very grateful.

A nation with a draft can probably work with around 5 percent of their nation in the armed forces, a nation without a draft will probably have a maximum of half that.

I would say anywhere from .5% to 2.5% would work for you. This would include all personnel including support, research and development etc.

I found on one of the forums here some time back this site that calculates military numbers and other factors for you auto... all you do is put in Your Economy IE Strong... and Population (write out the full number) and Tax rate (%).. then let it do the figuring.. The first page includes military but there is a second page from that goes more detailed.. Also you can print it off the site...

Let me know if the link works or not..

You also have a selection from a list for military.. be it by draft or whatever..

Also it sets military at .7% of population and retired at .35% with a draft or mandarory service..

If you pick High Pride in the military area it uses a figure of .4% so be sure you pick the rigth one..

That's a very interesting calculator, but some of the stats it generated conflicted with the NSEconomy Calculator:

It makes me wonder about its overall accuracy.

Okay, now I have another question:

What percentage of my army would usually be non-fighting personnel?

I don't know if anyone has ever even thought of this, but if someone has an idea as to how much it is I'd be happy to know.
