The Honor Guard toook about a month to put together the first draft and then we edited it to make it so that most of the territories are equal in size. Our region is young but we have a lot of active RPers that use the map extremely well. :D

The USSR regional map: http://darndog.no-ip.com/sixguns/index.html
There's varying levels of detail, I'm sure you'll work it out :)
This is ridiculous. What programs do you guys use?

Well, I didnt do any of the original work on ours, a member named Thracianhorse did. He did a great job to say the least and he did it within 2 or 3 weeks time. It was amazing really, and I did the editing to make sure everything was equal. I believe he used PAINT and I know undoubtably that I used MS PAINT to do all the editing. It just takes alot of effort and careful pixeling. To be fair, he said that he did a "little computer graphics in college" so maybe thats why it came out so nice...

Thanks Qlestine, the map was created in Photoshop, layer effects provide almost all of the faux 3D detail, there's also a subliminal ussr image in it that few people ever notice ;)
A while ago I was experimenting with Terragen to produce 3D renderings, you can see a test render here: http://darndog.no-ip.com/patoxia.jpg
Taking the existing map and creating a realistic looking hightfield from it has proved excessivly timeconsuming though so the projects been shelved for the meantime.
