Problems with the economy

There are a number of flaws that are apparent to me in this game and I question whether these are serious enough to detract from the fun.

One of my biggest problems is with the tax rate. Countries with booming economies can show a tax rate of 100% which sounds ludicrous to me. It appears that there is little relationship between these two factors.

Population is another area although one that is harder to solve. This seems to be hard-coded to grow at a certain rate. The end result is that the current world could not support all the people living on it. I certainly believe an "adjustment" is needed. However, population can also be affected by many factors and it would be nice to see some of these in the game. Of these, perhaps the most interesting would be one to introduce migrating populations (from war, disease, poverty, unrest etc). It would certainly make it more of a challenge to maintain a dictatorship whose citizens are poor while neighbour enjoys widespread freedoms.

Oh, and since I just got this, can someone tell me why my country has to charge its citizens an extra 2% on income tax just because it has agreed to offer awards for positive racial portrayals

 I agree, plus population should be effected by tax rates, because ppl wud want to live sumwhere where they have to pay less tax

100% tax, ur crazy, no-one wud ever do that in real life, their ppl wud not be able to live.

NEWS: ALL OF BABBOON-UTOPIA DIES OF STARVATION BECAUSE OF 100% TAX :headbang:

But I agree dat population should be decressed by evironmental factors too.

Well I can understand that 100% income tax is possible in a system where the state provides housing, food, clothing etc. But 100% tax combined with World Benchmark civil liberties would be, to me, contradictory.

Why? You don't need a police state to have civil liberties, and these are not related to money. Why should your tax rate effect your freedom to do what you want? Unless you want to spend money, but even then there is a possiblility of getting an "allowence"-whereby all the people get given a fixed amount of money from the government to spend as they wish.

Actually, it's quite possible to have a strong economy and a high tax rate. Real-life example: China, which as a communist state has little economic freedom (high taxes, welfare) but a very good economy (exports, all those "Made in China" stickers on the bottom of practically everything). One nation I know has "World Benchmark" Civil Rights and a 100% tax rate (UN index: Scandinavian Liberal Paradise), which is not a contradiction in terms: people can do whatever they want, except buy stuff.

That also explains, for me, the Psychotic Dictatorships with "Frightening" economies.

As for the tax rates, those rise and fall depending on your issue decisions. The 2% tax increase for the government prizes was because the money for those prizes needs to come from somewhere, doesn't it?
