Regional Flags

I think that regions should make more effort to design and publish their regional flags, and encourage native nations to that region to incorporate it on their national flag. I've encorporated the semi-official GREAT British pre-1800 Union Jack of the UK (which lacks the Irish element) into all my national flags. Should more regions do the same?

It would make identifying nations during a conflict much easier for us poor inexperienced ambassadors...

I agree but I think that will be on nationstates 2.

I'm not talking about a flag that's recognised by the NS server - but an emblem to put in the forum, and for member states to put in their flags.

Like this:

Top right corner, the semi-official Flag of GREAT Britain. This is larger than normal for my nations, because it's a military unit, where regional identification is more important.

And here is the flag of the Grand Duchy of Claverton, and the flag of Lord Kelston:

Note the small GREAT Britain flag in the upper left corner.

(Also, all my flags have a yellow bar and the Three Beasties enblem along the left-hand side. This identifies them as Clavertonian, for reasons lost in the depths of history. I wouldn't expect anyone else to make a similar identifying mark though.)

In my opinion, more nations should do this, to make it easier to identify a nations region of origin, and to spread regional pride.

My flag for the 'nuclear winter bunker' region of England Wales and Scotland:

The pattern of the lion, dragon, and deer of England, Wales, and Scotland are copied from a corporate logo, but coloured differently.

Regional flags are a role-play characteristic, since there's no place to "fly" them (i.e. display them), it would be quite hard to publish and showcase designs as is on the NS site. However, as said before,

Nations fly national flags, not regional flags, unless everyone decides to do so.

A regional flag could be displayed on the off-site forum, or the founder/delegate could adopt it as their flag. Look at my military flag:

The top left-hand Union Flag shows it's GREAT British (who semi-officially have that flag as the enblem). The bottom left quarter show Clavertonian/EW&S regionality. The right half is unique to the unit, and actually is the RAF 9 Squadron crest. It can be quickly identified as GREAT British in a regional list, and would be easy to distinguish from other similar units. That's what a flag is for, in my opinion.

Other regions (such as Gatesville) use regional flags on their military units which show rank, etc.

I'm going to swap some flags around now. My main region will get the Three Beasties logo, and everyone else gets a white/red/blue flash under the Union flag. I like uniformality in my flags.

Oh, I totally agree, I was just pointing that out to those who might not have understand it that way. :p

Oh, I see. I misread your post completely the first time round!

Eh. I've changed all the flags around now. The EWS Three Beasties logo (showing a lion, dragon, and a deer, I think, for England, Wales, and Scotland - foisted from the EWS railway company) is now the flag of Claverton.
