I've been having a hard time making choices in dilemmas and find myself dismissing a lot of issues now because the outcomes a lot of time seem to be ridiculous, or decisions I never even thought I made. So now I try to be more careful which dilemmas I will deal with and which ones that appear to have no good outcome or that all their decisions are at one extreme or the other.
For example, I was faced with a dilemma about taxes. One guy said that we should have huge cuts in welfare and healthcare. I thought, no I don't want to do that as I like the image of a socially progressive nation. Another guy said something like, we should get to pick where our taxes go. Not a bad idea, but I don't know of any countries that actually do this in real life and really I'm not sure the outcome, thinking that this could end up where people put their taxes into paying for welfare, to keep them afloat and I don't want communism.
Anyway, the one decision I made, thinking it made sense, was to take the tax burden off of the lower income people. Now it was kind of vague, but it sounded like it was saying that we should tax the rich higher than the poor. This is what most countries do, so to me it made sense. At the time, my nation's description said that there was a "flat income tax rate", meaning everyone had to pay the same, so I thought that the poor should have a lower rate than the rich. Well that was a big mistake because now it says that I tax the rich 100%. Also, I went from being a "Powerhouse" to a "Very Strong" economy overnight. No wonder, I just made the rich absolutely poor because I'm taking all their money. This isn't about whining about problems with the game, I'm just trying to learn how the dilemmas work, so I can make better decisions in the future on these issues. So I'm just wondering now, is there anyway to reverse these ridiculous outcomes somewhere down the road? Do we get other dilemmas, like the rich in my country decide to protest, where I can fix this mistake? I'm still relatively new at this, with only a month into it and I thought I'd ask what happened to other people, who have been here a lot longer. I'm sure I"m not the only one who runs into these crazy outcomes happening in their nations.
