Wacky outcomes to dilemmas

I've been having a hard time making choices in dilemmas and find myself dismissing a lot of issues now because the outcomes a lot of time seem to be ridiculous, or decisions I never even thought I made. So now I try to be more careful which dilemmas I will deal with and which ones that appear to have no good outcome or that all their decisions are at one extreme or the other.

For example, I was faced with a dilemma about taxes. One guy said that we should have huge cuts in welfare and healthcare. I thought, no I don't want to do that as I like the image of a socially progressive nation. Another guy said something like, we should get to pick where our taxes go. Not a bad idea, but I don't know of any countries that actually do this in real life and really I'm not sure the outcome, thinking that this could end up where people put their taxes into paying for welfare, to keep them afloat and I don't want communism.

Anyway, the one decision I made, thinking it made sense, was to take the tax burden off of the lower income people. Now it was kind of vague, but it sounded like it was saying that we should tax the rich higher than the poor. This is what most countries do, so to me it made sense. At the time, my nation's description said that there was a "flat income tax rate", meaning everyone had to pay the same, so I thought that the poor should have a lower rate than the rich. Well that was a big mistake because now it says that I tax the rich 100%. Also, I went from being a "Powerhouse" to a "Very Strong" economy overnight. No wonder, I just made the rich absolutely poor because I'm taking all their money. This isn't about whining about problems with the game, I'm just trying to learn how the dilemmas work, so I can make better decisions in the future on these issues. So I'm just wondering now, is there anyway to reverse these ridiculous outcomes somewhere down the road? Do we get other dilemmas, like the rich in my country decide to protest, where I can fix this mistake? I'm still relatively new at this, with only a month into it and I thought I'd ask what happened to other people, who have been here a lot longer. I'm sure I"m not the only one who runs into these crazy outcomes happening in their nations.

mostly.. people just need to read the options more carefully

I do try to read the options carefully because in the beginning I made a lot more mistakes. Sometimes I'll find an option that suits me to some degree, but caught myself catching one last sentance before pushing the "Accept" button, that says something against what I believe. This wasn't the case here, the only thing I noticed is that the option for the taxing the rich, was very vague. It didn't say what it was going to tax the rich, just that they should have higher taxes. I didn't expect that it would take it to the extreme of 100%.

So yeah I'll be even MORE careful next time what I pick, or what issues I dismiss. This time, I'll watch that if it's not clear and concise, or it has some kind of a possible loophole, then don't pick that option and if there is no option other than that one, I'll dismiss it. That's why I had to crank the issues to two per day, 7 days a week because of the fact I'm dismissing so many of them. Especially the silly ones, like citizens asking me to sacrifice a virgin to their God. One side says I should ban these extreme religions and another says I should appease them and do what they say. I decided that I'll dismiss it just as any politician would dismiss such a silly request of them.

A few more or less immoral, capitalist-looking choices and that particular part changes to a less excessive (taxes even higher for the rich') description, and a while later, if you continue that way, you have it flat, again.

I don't think issues should have an outcome that is really "perfect". Every one has some kind of drawback. You have to compromise your principles in some way, otherwise your nation will never evolve.

If you don't agree with an issue, dismiss it. Nothing will happen to you.

Having been here for a few weeks, I must say that some of the outcomes have caught me very much by surprise.

For instance, I was asked to allow mining in a forest area. I allowed a minimal amount of forest to be removed in order to mine there, and now my beloved minifigs are teetering on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation!

Man, I’m glad that I did not allow them to remove all the forest.
