I haven't joined the UN yet. What are the benefits? Do they make you do anything? What if the UN passes something I don't agree with, do I have to comply?

Yep, you do. That's the problem with it. I say don't be in the UN. It's isn't what it cracked up to be.

You dont have to join the Un u can stay a rogue nation if you want, but it is always best to make an application to the Un because the resolutions can help your nation greatl :gundge: :sniper:

the UN has it's benefits...especially when you join a gameplay army to invade or defend regions (like the one in my signature, one of the oldest gameplay armies still alive in the game)

The major benefits to me is being able to draft proposals, listen to peoples comments, submit proposals, and argue about proposals on the forum.
Then again, I'm a RL Defence Attache so I may be warped...

You can occasionally invade a region, attempt to get your viewpoint to override others, and get to enjoy deciding which way to vote.

Do they make you do anything?

Yes. You have to comply with whatever a resolution says unless the resolution makes the actions in it optional.

What if the UN passes something I don't agree with, do I have to comply?

Yes. If you like national sovereignity, don't join.

Or if you like national sovereignty and also like contributing to your region through UN membership, you can join and advocate a respect of national sovereignty by the UN. :)

This is why I respect you and find myself lurking in Texas from time to time (not that frequently).

It is possible to join the UN *and* advocate that the UN seriously weigh the differences between international problems and domestic ones. I will admit, that as a player I am *less than* impressed by people tho flame newbies claiming they've not read Max's FAQ for two reasons: (1) the FAQ actually does not discourage the sovereignty debate (which is the point of a UN and very important in the real UN) from happening, and (2) it is a cheap way to avoid coming to terms that all "nations" are essentially equal in this game -- there is no winner, there are no all powerful "tech" endowed "father / mother" races / nations out there handing out prizes to the nations that worship them.

Any time a national sovereignty issue comes up, there actually *is* a way to incorporate the debate at hand and the issue. Sometimes you might get lucky and find a solution. :)
