How do you start a war? I don't mean to sound as if I'm looming over someone. Quite the contrary, I want to see if there's any special way for doing it. i.e. do you have to post it in the forums? Can it just be by telegram? By all three? A combination of two? Are there any rules at all? Just so I can figure out how to do it right if someone launches one at me. :D

well, it would have to be agreed to by both/all parties involved first... otherwise one could just ignore the warring nation...

There are a few ways.

1) If you want to fight a specific nation, you should telegram them to see if they want to fight a war. If they are, then post it in the forums.

2) If you don't care who you fight, just post that your nation has done something horrible (mass executions, expansionist tyrant seizes power, etc.). It is almost certain that sooner or later, someone will start a war to prevent the evil from continuing.

3) Last, (but not recomended) you could just declare in the forums that you are attacking a specific nation. However, this will often be ignored if it wasn't discussed ahead of time via telegram.

To prove what that you can fight. Now on the other hand if it is for a good reason like to protect women and children or the anailation of a people that is different. I guess we could all find something to go to war for. Why not just live in peace with one another unless you are being pushed. A man who chooses to fight must first ask what am I fighting for. and since this is the gameplay forum:
war: you join the UN, join an invader or defender army, and join on missions :D

That discrepancy between two different "modes" of playing within the same game has always seemed strange to me. I've tried roleplaying (with other nations), written NSwiki entries, and recently started UN-gameplaying. You wonder about your identity: Is your account a country with many politicians and governments? Or is it one person? A whole nation can be a "delegate" or an "ambassador", or move at will between regions - while inside it, the completely oblivious populace debates on whether democracy should be compulsory, and the department of defense is trying its best to lay the hurt on another nation (avoiding the term "invasion" because that's what the UN department is responsible for after all...)

Roleplaying and gameplaying with the same nation is mildly confusing. :p

My nation is an independent and sovereign region on both NationStates and in roleplays. It's the least confusing way.
