A retrospect on Two Years of NS.

Crimmond
26-03-2005, 14:14
Two years. 4.621 billion people. Frightening economy for 19 months.

I have been on this site through most of it's existance, only missing the first five months. I have seen versions 1.3 through 1.8 and the wait from the old, poor overworked servers, which we regularly gave hemorages, to the new Jolt super servers... which still are taking a good beating. I had the Population Bug.

But on the less technical side, I've seen teh rise and fall of legacies. The GDODAD, reviled now, was the most powerful conglomoration of evil the site has ever seen. I saw the height of the WMNK and watched it fall... I've seen the end of Magic China. I've seen the end of Kitsylvania. I've participated in events that shaped NS. The Melkor led invasion of the Corporate Islands. World War V. The debatable World War VI. The Ubercaust/Omnicaust. The rise of the GDODAD and the construction of Metus. Closer to home, I've become the cause of an alliance toppling. The APTO, one of teh longest standing alliances fell to it's knees because of a civil war in my nation.

And I have seen n00bs. I have seen them by the truckload. Some were annoying. Some were hilarious. Others were just there. I was a n00b. You were a n00b. Anyone who says they weren't is lying.

And I have seen many things come to pass. I've seen the UN become even more useless than it's RL counterpart. I've seen Max Barry and Salsua and who know what other help tackle the great problem of the forums. I've seen... I've seen one of my nations reach teh Top Ten in the world. Manhattan Penitentiary, before left to die, was 3rd in the world for Political Freedoms. A very ironic thing and a shock, considering the nation was created two days earlier. But I digress. I have seen so many things, but I am still waiting to see what comes next.

Hopefully, that will be NationStates 2. But... people have been waiting for that before I ever found this place, on the 24th of March. Two days later, I created Crimmond and thus I started. ANd I will wait another two years for NS2. And my new goal...

To read at the bottom of my nation's overview:

Crimmond is ranked 1st in the region and 1st in the world for Largest Population.

One can dream...

Well man...there seems to be a whole hellload of us "active oldtimers" reaching the deuce at the same time. I too remember most of what you talk about, and agree that everyone, at one time, was a n00b in their own way. Congradulates on your second birthday, man. It's been a trip.

Dern you and yer population bug. The GDODAD was so cool. I say it "Guh-doe-dad."

Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcom X. Er....according to Dave Chappelle.

But anyway, I was supposed to go down in history as the nation who fought a bogus war against Melkor and reached a stalemate. But Maniaca has a way of slipping through history's fingers....just the way I like it.

:sniper: How dare you imply that I have ever been a n00b?

Seriously, though I used to be a silly n00b who didn't know how to buy from a storefront :D

I figure that's pretty cumbersome, especially when it was all over the forums, to say each letter. But hey, that's cool, no beef. I'd give you the Shaq of approval but that's only on the COOL forums.

You aren't thinking back far enough...lol

I remember a day when we could say something, or do something (like kill POW's) and people would actually obey us. Try to do that in today's NS. You can't. You'd be ignored, laughed at, or attacked by an equally uber-alliance. TST, Nod, Klamath, me, and some others like C-man here kicked some ass.
Crimmond
29-03-2005, 08:34
Damn right we did. I enjoyed being an enforcer. ANd the GDODAD had another six months in it had the UWB Incident not happened.

BTW, have any of you looked in there recently? How the mighty has fallen.

Nope. I'm just rewriting history. ^_^

Remember when that kind of thing sparked outrage in NS, and you'd have at least one page of condemnations of such stuff? Now it's hardly worth a passing glance. Compared to the nations of today, the old GDODAD seems refined.

Back in MY day March nations wouldn't talk to January nations like THAT. No sir. No respect for your elders these days!

True, but I am keeping this nation alive, although I don't think I will ever be really active again. Still, I'm keeping an eye on my region and answering some issues every once in a while. In a few weeks I'm going to hit 5 billion

Funny... I always called it "Go Dad". Well, that or DOODAD, hee.

Man... never thought I'd see the day when us March 03's were venerable elders. 02's were their own, ancient, group; Jan-Feb 03 were another group, and everyone else was a n00b.

Oh, and Crimmond can have Pop. I want to see "The Most Glorious Hack is ranked 1st in the region and 1st in the world for Largest Information Technology Sector."

I'm a Nov '02*. I pronounce GDODAD jee-doe-dad or g'doe-dad. I remember 'interesting' things that have been done throughout NS history, several including Magic China.** All's good again. Neat to see Nod's still here. Browser crash cause choppy rewritten post. Thank you for listening.

*27 November 2002 around 2000 GMT
**Nuking a nation for a president who writes like that of the nuked Magic China, marching an army between two warring armies (I did that when MC was invaded), putting a rifle's magazine inches from the barrel, gold-plated NBC ICBMs, the NS Food War...
