It is a small region (approximately thirty nations), but one that has the features of a huge region, such as a well-managed and active offsite forum, a constitution with a clause for amendments, an NS Wiki page, regularly scheduled elections, "heated" debate, multiple recruiters, active UN members, senior members, and a rich history. The Union of Independent States has been around since July 2003, and still has some members who were there from the beginning. It has alliances and rival factions, and is an excellent place for any nation, be it new or old, right-wing or left-wing, forum user or not, puppet or not, or UN member or not. Also, the Union of Independent States has a "no password, no ejection, no banning" policy. Also, free speech on the regional message board and on the forum is a given, so long as it complies with NationStates rules.
