This is kind of a dumb question. If you leave the region that you founded to post messages in the feeder regions and then came back would you still have regional control?

I think so. I still have regional control for a region I founded after I left it. You could always make a puppet to post in the feeder regions. Don't worry about it being a dumb question; it's not, and most NS'ers are nice. Except for Myrth's One Eye. Which is creepy.

With another nation I have, I created a region. I then stuck a puppet of that nation into this region and took the founding nation out into another region. Even now, that nation still has regional control, even though it's been in another region for what must be months now.
