Honestly, I come back and you people spring a new term on me. There's about a billion threads with FT on them these days, and I have no clue what it means. I was thinking "first thread", but that didn't fit.
So, anyone gonna help me? :p

FT means Future Tech.
It means you use thouands of years from now.
Kinda Like Star Trek and Starwars, Only most people think ep there own tech.

Not neccisarrily. Future Tech means past Post-Modern. It could be anywhere from after this century to 5000 years from now. Thus FT could have fleets like in Star Trek or Star Wars or may just be high tech. After that range, it's pretty much FFT (Far Future Tech).

Well actually, Post Modren and FT are 2 different Catogorys.
Your usally considered FT if you have a way of going faster than light.

The difference is academic. Neither uses generally realistic tech these days.
Even Star Wars uses supposed ion engines, but they show none of the qualities of actual ion engines that make them ion engines (high efficiency, low thrust)...

Actually, one of my fave RPG games/series/'addiction at the moment' is Battletech.
The flair of it all with using this theme for my nation, is that ALOT of the technology on many of the worlds throughout the some 1100 year period have technology which is pretty darned Modern tech rather than Future, considering how much technology was lost, and how many far flung worlds in the Successor States and The Periphery had seen war and also the removed state they are in.
ST and SW is excellent, but BT is good too along with similar 'themes'.

BT kicks @$$ in ground combat, but SW/ST would be far better for space combat. When I finally get around to going FT, I'll probably use a custom combination of both, with the SPARTAN project from Halo thrown in for good measure. :)

I have been a Battletech fan for years. I have the pc games, console games, most of the books.. I have never RP'ed it though. But it does kick ass doesn't it? I really enjoy reading the books. If you play the pc games and get a good feel for the mechs, you can pretty much read the books and feel like you are part of it. The book series have all the trappings of an interstellar soap opera... they have some very good contributing authors I think.

Heh, I actually have some of the original Rp books that are around 20+ years old. You can tell by the 'rather' graphic art that's used in it.
I was replaying my MechCommander game, and had nearly finished with more than too many Clan 'Mechs in my roster. I was thinking of using that as a 'theme' on NS, but haven't figured out how to add it in..
In any case, I'm kinda excited about the Republic of the Sphere idea in the new Dark Age series. It's been too long in game terms since the Terran Hegemony collapsed with the Star League and a 'real' goverment was around like that.
The Timber Wolf MkIII is another reason. =^^=
