Ideal System of Government?

What is the ideal system of government for long-term? By system, I mean any combination of political and economic policies--but with an emphasis on long-term stability.

I've always been a fan of a nice, centrist, dictatorship, but it is incredibly hard to keep a dictatorship stable, because even if the first person was fantastic, how do you choose a succesor, and what do you do if they go insane? Democracy is an obvious choice, but they can become inefficient, bloated, and slow to respond. As for economic policies, communism is very open to corruption due to the massive beurocracy needed, and capitalism often plows down everything in its path--and makes the ploughed very very restless and unhappy. Each sysem has it's flaws, so what do you people think the right mix is?

I had a dream of becoming a dictator, but an extremely benevolent one, i.e.

- I would allow people to freely enter and leave the country

- Do my best to manage the economy, and if I don't do so well, actually let competant advisors help (unlike Hitler, for example, who had to do everything himself)

- Not kill everyone

- Train my police and military not to abuse its powers

etc.

But at any rate, I like socialism. It's the best of both communism and capitalism and allows for a free, democratic government.

I suppose I would call Tiborita a left leaning libertarian state. The economy is doing great. You have every oportunity to succeed. If you can't make it here, you have no one to blame but yourself. You can't blame the government.

At the moment, We are ruler of a Psychotic Dictatorship. However, it is Our goal to become a Father Knows Best. In Our view, benevolent dictatorship can solve many problems, at least here in the Empire.

EDIT: Oops, the following relates to our NS government, and not really RL government like the question is probably about. Sorry.

We believe in democracy, but instead of a directly elected prime minister and a load of lesser ministers that don't seem to crop up except in scandals, we have a board of 64 largely unbiased, elected people that act as a representation of the whole nation in decisions (if they are unable to vote, the ministers feel it is necessary or scandal breaks out, the vote is handed down to the people), and various ministries with also elected ministers. It is slow, hard to elect and quite easily corruptable, but it allows the most flexibility and liberality in our opinion. Not sure what an "ideal" government really is, but we had to show off ;)

Definately Stalinism. There would still be a Stalinist Soviet Union today if that pig Kruschev hadn't abandoned the perfect system and denounced glorious Comrade Stalin.

As it is sometimes difficult for one's personal political opinion to be exressed through random events and issues, I would like to say that the rating of a country on Nation-States can mean very little.
Continuing on the topic, dictatorships come to an end when the onmiscent leader dies, communism is prone to stagnation due to low worker morale, democracy is a slow, costly process which never works as an efficient way to represent the opinion of the populace. Onto econimic policies, capitalism appeases the greedy, ambitious human nature but opens rifts for insurrection and doesn't have a long term life span; socialism is stable but has low growth.

In light of the above, my personal favorite for a long-term governance policy is a heiracial authoritarian fascism. Who better to replace an efficient dictator than a child (not necessarily his own) endoctrined since birth. Unless a longevity vaccine can be developped dynasty's are the only way to go. As for the economy, a capitalist market reglemented only in the slightest to avoid the creation of an exploited proletariat.

The most ideal system of government to me involves as little of it as possible, but what is ideal for one culture/people may not be ideal for all. It depends as much on what theory is best as what group of people are involved. I would like the people to have the power to govern themselves much more, but I'm not entirely sure that this would not be open to outright exploitation here in the US, or anywhere else for that matter.
