Public Nation!

I have created a new nation that anybody is free to use. The only condition is, you must not change the password. You can do whatever you want with it. Anybody can use it at any time. The name of the nation is "Public Nation" and it is in the East Pacific. The password is "public".

You can post what you do with it here! Feel free to change regions, participate in invasions, change the flag, change the motto, or do anything! Just don't change the password.

What is this? So then how are you going to stop people from changing the password? I mean, you're giving the nation away basically... This is a bad idea if you ask me...

It works on the honor system. Anyone could just change the nation, yeah, but it has a bad name so I personally wouldn't want it to be my own nation. You should use it!

There you have it, public ownership leads to corruption and theft.

Which is the reason why communism doesn't work :D

Just kidding ;)

This has actually been done several times before, each time with the exact same result...

I would like to warn against using such 'public' nations, BTW. I'm afraid that if someone puts it in the UN, the UN Cheat Scan might come up with confusing data, causing a mod to act with undesired results.

Safe NationStates play means being carefull which nations one logs into. You don't know where it has been, do you? :p

It would be a fantastic idea - if only it weren't for the actions of certain individuals :-(

Actually, I like the idea in principle, because it gets to where nationstates is really about simulating government.

As it is, with one player per nation, each nations government is in actuality only an extension of one person's will. That's why even roleplayed democracies are, in a metanationstates sense, just dictatorships. Even roleplayed well, its nearly impossible to get the true sense of a complex, democratic government from anything except an alliance.

So we fill that need with alliances! And notice how in every alliance there's a "cabinet" - consisting of entire nations! This is in order to fill what I consider the innate NS player need to roleplay as a single entity, within a larger government.

Relatively few, I think, are interested in portraying a dynamic, multifaceted agency single-handedly. And it's difficult to do so.

So where the public nation comes in is not one that is owned by everybody, but one owned by a select few trusted individuals. But the key thing is more than one person per nation, thus the "government" can actually be a *national* government instead of an international pseudo-government.

And the fun, unpredictable (or predictable) aspects that emerge from real governments could emerge here too, and one could encounter a government in NS and have to deal with it as one would a government. :) Scary!

As things are, we have to deal with entire nations in the same way we deal with some random dude we meet on the street, and they act the same way (mostly).

There are actually several times in NS that I'm aware of that multi-player nations are used - and they're awe-inspiringly effective, IMO.

Would Mods be able to reveal who is responsible for stealing it? Surely they can track the i.p.....

And this thread is proof that it was stolen.

Ours doesn't. :p

Sorry for that piece of off-topic, just had to prove that there's a rebel in every movement. And unfortunately, that idea has been overlooked and now we have lost our Public Nation :(

What Santa Barbara said. Although I usually encounter them as "regions" rather than "alliances".

I don't know if they can find out who it was but they can change the password back...I think, after all they can get onto your account without you knowing it to change your motto and such.

There is this one website that has millions of free accounts for different games and such, but all the ones for nationstates are dead or password changed.

Considering it wasn't "stolen" as it was public property and freely given away, I highly doubt the mods would waste time trying to determine who changed the password.

Has anyone tried reaccessing it with the original password? Perhaps, someone is just fooling around with it or what-not, which has been known to happen in the past.

EDIT: Since this was posted, I checked myself... the password "public" has been restored as of 4:27 am EST, GMT -5. Knock yourselves out, kids.
