What are the meaning of U.N. categories, and what does it take to change it? I myself am Capitalizt, and am quite happy with it, but I am curious.

They're determined by your stats, which are mostly hidden numbers describing your nation, influenced by issues choices and UN resolutions, and also used to determine your nation description and the daily rankings. Have a look at http://ns.goobergunch.net/nsmap.jpg

The passage of UN resolutions and how you choose to answer the daily issues will slowly change your UN Category.

Despite what many players will tell you, I've personally found it moderately easy to stay in a general "area" of categories. However, I've found that I'm often too intriqued by the various daily issues (especially the silly ones) to really keep my nation locked in on a single category.

Remember, part of the fun of the game is either exploring (i.e. ride) or standing steady in the turbulent ways of the NS UN. :)

The UN Government Types are based on your nation's statistics. Namely, your Economic Freedoms, Civil Freedoms, and Political Freedoms. Your government's prevalence in daily life also has a minor effect.

The full list of government types and their requirements can be found on this handy-dandy map:

To change your category, all you have to do is answer issues in a way that will send your stats in that particular direction. For example, if you want to be classified as a "Corrupt Dictatorship", you may want to choose Option 3 on "Should Democracy be Compulsory?" It pretty much kills Political Freedoms.

That good?

Edit: Why is it that whenever I go to answer on of these questions, no-one's posted when I first look at it, then five people jump in ahead of me? Grrr...

As Mik said, UN resolutions do also have an effect on your stats, but they are usually minor. The full list of the proposal categories and what they do to your nation can be found here: http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=282176 Just scroll down a few pages, it's there.

To my knowledge that particular image is from May of 2004. I could be wrong, but the prevalence / ratios of UN Categories globally changes with respect to time.

For example, in my small region, I've watched our entire group move float around in the same general "cloud" for some time.

It would be interesting to have access to the script used to generate this original graph and reproduce it once a month or so.

Yep. Thank you. I'll put the link in my bookmarks so I can control what kind of nation I have. Can you say Psychotic Dictatorship?
