"Oh please." The sarcastic tone would seem out of place for such a sultry voice, if one doesn't know the owner.

"What's up, Red?"

"Nothing special, Dev. Just some idiot unzipping his fly to declare a haven for democracy in the world."

"Come again?"

"The founder of 'Democratus' is trying to get other nations to fill his ranks and become an example of bright, shining democratic ideals."

"Hmph. Says the woman being corrupted by bright, shining idealists."

"All right. That was a low blow," she says while reaching for a pillow and chucking it at him. "Like you're one to talk."

He takes the hit and grins, taking care not to spill the pitcher of ice water he ultimately sets beside the bed. "At least I don't let them give me silly ideas like 'sanctity of life' and other idealist notions. You're the one who wouldn't hear of killing the pretty little refugee girl."

"Sanctity of life has nothing to do with it. I just wish we had a better caliber of competition out there. At least these people can spell 'democracy' with any accuracy."

He climbs back into bed and snuggles up behind to peer over her shoulder at the screen. "'Democratians?' What a word. At least they're capitalists. Think they'd be open to investment?"

She baps him gently on the nose. She hates it when he reads over her shoulder. "I think that would depend on how trustworthy they are. I have no wish to see the trillions we've carefully maintained flushed down the toilet because they don't want to lose an advantage."

"I suppose we can investigate, anyway. We really need to have our slush fund put to good use."

"Put it before the alliance (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=277559). Maybe they'll have information sources we lack. That's the whole point, after all."

"Point. Now put that thing away. You can work later."
