I don't know if this is a glitch, or just bad luck, but...
I've been trapped as a "Father Knows Best" state for a looooong time. There don't seem to be any issues coming my way that can be used to increase my Political Freedoms.
Are there just a paucity of issues when you get to this level?

No. Just be patient. You could also try answering your issues in such a way as to jack up your civil rights and political freedoms...

Try changing your setting so you get two issues a day, hopefully you'll get the issue you're looking for more quickly.

I know this feeling. I'm stuck in the Iron Fist Consumerists, but cannot find the issues you are looking for so I can be more benevolent in allowing Political freedoms.
I guess we have to wait.

That is really confusing.
So I take it that to be say a, Democratic Socialist I need a Authortarian Approach to Economics, and a middle of the road approach to Personal and Political freedoms, with, say Liberal Democratic Socialists giving more freedom in Politics and Personal matters?

Given your example, to reach Liberal Democratic Socialists, you would only allow for more political freedom. If you were to increase political and personal freedoms, you would become a Left-wing Utopia.
