Although I am no newbie to forums, I am to NS. In fact, I run a few forums myself, and I am aware I have made an ass of myself in some threads, but in general I'm a decent RPer and an experienced forumer.
Now, before I'm a non-n00b I should write this guide for n00bs.
1) Come up with an original name.
Have something new not "Nazi Empire of Joe" or something like that. Combine everything that will positively drive your nation or something motivational, like my own title, Green Sun. Doesn't that fill you with greenness? It's not easy being so.
2)Establish how you're going to run your goverment.
Before you even CLICK that register button, think of how you're going to run your nation. Facist? Communist? Absolutist? Democratic? Base your descisions on this.
3)Find a good region
Find a region willing to protect you and accept new nations. Get a good impression onto them and always keep in touch, especially with the larger nations. If you become close friends, they may help you in a war later.
4)To get yourself established, create an internal incident
Start a thread with some sort of internal incident. But don't use something like,
"Communist rebels in Grooves of the Mind!"
That's unoriginal. Make something humorous or original, like,
"Ice cream trucks randomly exploding in Grooves of the Mind!"
Now I'm going to see ice cream trucks exploding all over Nation States...
5)Wait
Patients, my friend. Wait for your nation to grow so you can develop a military and then you can get seriously involved with external incidents. Trust me, the incident you create for yourself will last a LONG time.
6) Have fun!
In OOC (Out of Character), behave like yourself. But rememeber to say it's OOC. I've made that mistake before. If you want to be an asshole, be honest and don't go against every desesion(Can't spell that damn word today!) someone makes. Support causes you truly believe in and attack ones you don't be be honest and point out the good AND bad in every situation. If you want to be a nice guy, support what you believe in but point out all GOOD things in what happens. If you want to be a pussy, don't get involved in external incidents or take military action.
In short for #6: If you want to be an asshole, be nice about it, point all good and bad, and BE HONEST. If you want to be a nice guy, restrain yourself from saying everything and point out mostly good. If you want to be a pussy, don't get involved.
I hope these help. Follow these rules and you'll be a pretty likeable person, wether you're a smartass or French. And most of all,
